What will they design in the provided time?  Which piece will be the most stunning?  Who will win the Floral Mystery Box Challenge?!

The Floral Mystery Box Challenge, presented in conjunction with Tesselaar, borrows the idea of a secret box of ingredients used to challenge chefs and adapts it to the world of wildflowers. The evening will feature 3 top Perth-based floral designers who will compete to create the most stunning designs from a series of mystery boxes full of wildflowers. Contestants will be judged by the well-known John Grima of John Emmanuel and Bess Scott of Bess Paddington. The night promises to be full of drama, beautiful blooms, helpful design tips and plenty of laughter.   Please come join us for the fun and excitement!

More on our judges….

John Grima

John Grima is the founder and lead designer of John Emmanuel Floral Events, known for its large-scale luxury weddings and high-end event floristry.  John’s passion for floristry was ignited at a young age, influenced by his aunt and cousins, who were both florists.  Over the years, John has become a highly sought-after expert in the industry, earning an international reputation for creating breathtaking, bespoke floral arrangements that transform weddings and corporate events into extraordinary experiences.

In addition to his work as a designer, John is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of florists. Through his masterclasses, he has offered aspiring and seasoned professionals the opportunity to learn from his wealth of experience. The success of these masterclasses has been overwhelming, with participants consistently praising the real-world insights and immersive experience that has helped refine their craft.

John is a strong advocate for continued education in the floristry industry. Today, he encourages both newcomers and experienced florists to embrace ongoing learning through enrichment programs to refine their skills and stay ahead of trends. Through both his in-person and online training programs, John continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of florists, all while pushing the boundaries of floral design at John Emmanuel Floral Events.

Bess Scott

Bess grew up on a flower farm on the NSW Central Coast surrounded by the Australian bush and stunning native species that her grandfather and father grew. She has worked in floristry for 15 years in Sydney and London, and it was working solely with European flowers in London that solidified her deep, inherited respect and appreciation for Australian natives. On returning to Australia she made it her mission to share them and foster that appreciation with others.

Bess opened her shop, BESS Paddington, in 2018 to elevate Australian native wildflowers within the heart of the local community. The shop sets itself apart from other florists by focusing on the wild and truly unique beauty of Australian wildflowers. Bess feels lucky to be the 5th generation in her family involved in the flower industry and stands on the shoulders of her father Craig who is a pioneer in the native flower industry.
