Melbourne-based floral artist Katie Marx led a two-day, hands-on workshop exploring the art of designing with wildflowers. Known for her natural, textural style and creative use of native botanicals, Katie shared techniques for working with form, colour and movement to create expressive arrangements that celebrate the character of wildflowers.

Participants worked with beautiful flowers supplied directly by the growers themselves. Over two days, students designed individual arrangements and collaborated on the design and construction of several large installations that were used to style the venue for the Australian Wildflower Conference.

Katie Marx

Katie Marx has spent 30 years honing her unique floral style and has emerged as one of Australia’s most original, imaginative and contemporary florists. Katie has an unwavering sense of her own style and ethos which she has adhered to through the whims of floral fashion and trends. Her affinity with Australian natives, together with her love of sustainable foraging, has resulted in many breathtaking installations, always demonstrating her masterful use of scale, contrast, repetition and originality.
Katie has a natural teaching ability, enthusiastic and generous with her sharing of knowledge and expertise in floristry. Her love of the natural world, the wild and wonderful array of flowers, especially Australian natives, is always evident in her work. Anyone who has attended one of Katie’s workshops will attest to her passion and joy for sharing her great love of flowers and botanical creations. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her teaching style as unique as her striking creations. Katie Marx has the rare ability to not only instruct technique and method, but also to inspire and elevate, to show the beauty and wonder of Australian natives.
