Farm Plus Program

WFA announces success: Funding received for Farm Plus program.

In February 2009, WFA received the early news of the Farm Productivity and Quality Enhancement  Project that WFA was negotiating for with RIRDC. Funding for this project has been approved and WFA is ready to start.

We are calling the project The Farm Plus Program as we believe that the program will contribute to Farm sustainability, PLUS improve crop yield, PLUS improve product quality, PLUS improve vaselife, PLUS reduce pest and disease incidence, PLUS contribute to easier harvest management.

Dr Audrey Gerber has been appointed Project Manager, and will work closely with each grower participant to coordinate the research component of the project. Audrey will prepare an annual report each year, and a final report at the end of the 4 year project. The WFA Secretariat is managing administration and payments for the project.

Applications for the first intake are now open.

The first growers have already signed up and will be attending a training course in Sustainable Agriculture in July 2009. Joining the program now positions these growers to be ready with a farm nutrition programme to support vigorous healthy growth from their plants in spring, in preparation for their next harvest to be a bumper crop.

For more information on the Farm Plus Program, and an application form to join the project, please see the documents attached below.

Project Information
To improve the capacity of the Wildflower Industry members in Australia to provide a high
quality, high value product by engaging in a continuous improvement program. This will be
based on application of current soil science technology particularly suited to the Industry’s
current attributes. The project will also facilitate the adoption of a continuous quality
improvement cycle throughout the Industry.

To provide and roll out a structured program that will help to;

  • Enable growers to scientifically assess their farms on an individual basis
  • Generate the information required at farm level to address soil problems which are
  • inhibiting achievement of optimal farm productivity and efficiency
  • Provide mechanisms to implement soil amendments required
  • Achieve a balance of nutrient availability which will optimise production capacity
  • and quality
  • Provide training and on-farm implementation of a process which will ensure the
  • sustainability of high quality production.
